197. (Do the remix!)

Dress H&M | Belt ASOS | Scarf Forever 21 | Cardigan Thrifted | Tights Simons | Boots Thrifted Dr. Martens

Only one picture of this outfit. Why? Because my camera is sucking and I think it's time for me to invest in a new lens.

I can't believe I got these babies for $7.00 ... that's right, $7.00 ... best part about buying used Dr. Martens is that I don't have to wear them in so it's SUPER comfortable!) Oh, sorry about the fur. My pug sheds A LOT.

Beautiful detailing on the tights.

I'm trying really hard to remix my items as you can see. I mean, isn't it obvious that my blog centres around remixing? Personally I'd rather wear a bunch of items over and over again than buy one dress or one garment and NEVER wear it again. My mission as a blogger was never to flaunt my new items each time I do a blog post, and it never will be my mission. This might be how other people run their blogs, but it's not how I run mine. I blog for myself, to keep progress of my personal style and personal growth as an individual and to meet like-minded people in the world. Besides, I'm one of those people who really LOVES and wears the hell out of the garment until I get sick of it.

Here's reasons why I remix:

1. It's more sustainable, less wasteful.
2. Forces you to think about your outfits.
3. I'm not rich. (I never intended this in the first place. I'm not trying to be a fashion blogger who flaunts a bunch of designer brands and wears Jeffrey Campbell Litas. That may be other bloggers prerogatives, but not mine!)
4. I like wearing the hell out of my stuff.

There's lots of great remix blogs out there. My favourite is Clothedmuch.com. Elaine is a great blogger and is PRO at making new looks with what little clothes she has. She is my inspiration, do check out her blog if you haven't yet!

Do you remix? Do you prefer blogs that integrate remixing garments and outfits? What are your opinions on this issue? I'd love to know what you think!

In addition to remixing, I just like being cheap. I think I will make a post on thrifting and my overall frugality another time. Even though I have a lot of clothes, I don't pay a lot for garments. If I had a lot spare cash, I would definitely invest in brand new clothing... but I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon - that's the life of a student, huh? :P

Anyways, until next time!

  1. What a great find with those Dr. Martens!  I'm completely the same way, I wear the hell out of my clothes.  The only way they leave my closet is if they don't fit (Even though, I usually hang on to the too small stuff  *wishful thinking*)
I buy a lot of thrifted things as well, and if I do buy in the store, it's NEVER full price!

  2. That dress is SO cute! I usually just assume that I can't fit into H&M's stuff because, historically, I haven't been able to. Perhaps I should stop in sometime, though, and give it another go.

I completely agree with you, by the way. I only buy clothes that I absolutely love, which prevents me from getting carried away in the clothing department. It also means that I'll wear the hell out of whatever I buy. =)

  3. You always have really good stuff from thrifting. I seem to have no luck so I hope to see a post about thrifting soon!

  4. I also wear the hell out of my clothes, lol. They usually get too holey before I get sick of them. :P

  6. You are seriously the cutest. And I am definitely pro-remixing. I think it actually forces you to be more creative in your outfits, rather than just throwing on your new stuff. It works in art, too - boundaries and challenges = creativity blossom. In my experience :)

  7. I'm pro-remixing too! I don't have a lot of clothes and I like to stretch my closet out to its maximum!

  8. I am definitely pro-remixing, but I am a shopaholic and a Gemini (which means short attention span!!) so I love getting new stuff. I knew i needed to start remixing more when a co-worker mentioned I never wear the same thing twice.... So that brought me back down to earth,  i am definitely going to try to do more remixing on my blog, just to see what I can come up with as I have a lot of great pieces that are just begging to be worn out... Cute thirft finds and cute cute dress... I can't get away with wearing Doc Maartans with a dress, but you definitely can...very cute!!

  9. I am all about remixing-- where I can. Unfortunately, I wore black tees and jeans for too many years to count so I'm just finally starting to really get into a good place and have some coherency with my wardrobe. I thrift whenever possible and buy thoughtfully (generally on clearance!!) from online stores and I find it's all coming together. But I am also a terrible, lazy fashion blogger soo..

Being cheap; sometimes I feel like it's a Winnipeg thing. Ha! I am transplanted on the West Coast and can't believe the people who pay sticker price. Pfft.

  10. I thank you for re-mixing your outfits and showing us different ways to wear the same clothes. You make it seem easy and effortless and you look amazing... Sometimes other bloggers (Whom I love looking at their blogs) do flaunt the things that sometimes readers can't go out and buy, but I adore the fact that your honest and you showcase affordable pieces that I have gone out and purchased myself... lol... Keep up the amazing work...

  11. Thanks!
Doc Martens are a trend among youngsters at my University here. Haha. They're surprisingly very warm. :p

I get what you mean by being a shopaholic and being short attention span. I'm no gemini but I have ADHD so I'm all over the place.

    Thanks so much.

  14. Bonjour Gazel!! You are a brilliant woman, no bullshit. Everything you say has purpose and I enjoy reading your blog and twitter. I've said it before, you are such a Sexy Secretary, and so just.. aah! I adore your style!! Now, personally, I've always been a *shopaholic* (if you could see my Grama's closet, you'd believe me when I say its inhereted) but like, a clearance shopaholic. I hate buying things that cost more than $20. Sometimes I do, but that's once in a blue moon. I'm more about the way something looks than the name brand, and "remixing?" I never use that word, because its silly. I'm not a celebrity, so it should be expected that you'll see me wear the same thing multiple times. That's one thing that I don't like about the blogging world; everyone feels the need to try and keep up with the next person when that's not what it should be about. I really REALLY like those Docs, I want some like that, distressed like I've had to hitchike crosscountry.

  18. I'm a new reader to your blog and I love it. Instantly one of my favorites now. I love your sense of style and everything you write. I admit I tend to just skim read other blogs and look at pictures but all your posts are so interesting and funny your so right about the Jeffery Campbell litas I swear they are the "fashion bloggers" shoe and I never know how people wear heels like that everyday...Sore feet must be a given. I'm very pro remixing I have always wondered about some bloggers who seem to wear new outfits all the time if they are just supppper rich and how they can afford to buy designer brands each week. I myself don't have much money and wear outfits again and again.  Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm packing a suitcase for a week and all I wear are the clothes from my packed pile. It's a cool way of forcing yourself to make versatile outfits from what you have. Keep up the good work :-) X

  27. I don't have many clothes so I always have to come up with different ways to wear my pieces. Honestly, I think it's more fun to come up with ways on how different you can make a dress look like. Buying a new outfit might be fun, but it's just for that moment. What will you do after that?

I love reading blogs that use the same pieces over and over. It's much  more realistic for people like me. Of course, I still enjoy reading those who have a zillion sponsors and have a new outfit for every post because those are a great source of inspiration for future outfits!

  36. I know when girls dress inappropriately for their size, and you are not one of them. I love your outfit, it's stylin' and gorgeous - you're gorgeous. I don't know who this Angie bitch is, but she's either a self-hating fat girl with no style, or a self-hating thin bitch who has an attitude because she can't eat more than 200 calories a day.

    Smile for the haters <3
